Many of us experience back pain at some point in our lives. Did you know the way you stand can help prevent an aching back? There are a few ways to improve your posture to relieve back pain and enjoy pain-free living.
Improve Your Posture With Stretching
Stretching is one of the best things you can do for your body. Upper body stretches work well to realign your posture and prevent back pain. Stand with your feet apart, face a wall, and plant your hands firmly against it. Hold the stretch for 20 to 30 seconds. Arm and chest stretches also work well to relieve pain and tension in your upper back and body. Take one arm, hold it in front of you, and take your opposite hand above the elbow. Gently guide that arm across your body to the opposite side. Hold the stretch for 20 to 30 seconds and repeat with the other arm.
Try a Shoulder Blade Squeeze
The shoulder blade squeeze is another helpful exercise to reduce back pain and improve your posture. You can do this exercise standing up or sitting down. Stand or sit straight and tall and then squeeze your shoulder blades together. Hold the position for about 5 to 10 seconds as you gently breathe. Repeat the exercise a few more times and incorporate it into your daily routine.
Massage Therapy Can Help Relieve Pain
If you suffer from chronic back pain, don’t continue this path alone. Lingering pain from an injury can worsen if not addressed. In addition to stretching and improving posture, natural treatments such as massage therapy can help. Massage therapy assists blood flow in the body, relieves tension, and promotes pain relief.
